Maple Bowl Set
Each bowl in this set of Spalted Maple bowls exhibits a beautiful pallette of colors from ochre to yellow/gold to light brown. These were carved from the same piece of wood. Often refered to as Ambrosia Maple (in which a distinctive coloring is caused by the Ambrosia beetle) the beautiful color patterns in these bowls are caused by certain white-rot decay fungi which grow in the wood during our slow drying process. Left on its own in the forest, this wood would eventually decay to the point where it would not be usable. Spalted wood is highly prized by wood workers for this reason.
